Kids' version of Hollywood Lies

Freeform Games have just released a kids' version of Hollywood Lies - here's an extract from their recent newsletter:

Following the success of the kids' version of Way out West, we've now done one for our popular recent game Hollywood Lies. Hollywood Lies, for 16-22 players plus a host, is set in the glamorous deal-making atmosphere of a top movie awards ceremony, where the Best Actor winner Tom Speed has been killed in a motor accident... The kids' version keeps all the intrigue and excitement of the ordinary version, but it avoids references to the more sordid side of the film industry.

Kids will love the chance to be Hollywood stars for the night just as much as adults do! As with Way out West, we're including the kids' version of the game entirely free when you buy the normal version of the game -- you can compare both versions, and decide which one is going to be most suitable for your party.

What are you an expert on?

I've just discovered Squidoo - a site which lets you build a focussed page on a topic of your choice.

The theory behind Squidoo is that it's getting increasingly hard to find good content on the Internet - search engines only go so far and tend to deliver highly optimised results that marketers like, rather than the pages that you actually want... Instead, Squidoo uses volunteers (people like you and me) to create pages focussed on things that they are interested in. You link to the sites and resources that you find useful... which makes your page a useful list of "real" content.

I'm not sure I've explained that very well... It's easier to go to Squidoo and see for yourself.

What has this to do with murder mystery games? Well, I've set up a page (technically known in the Squidoo world as a "lens") for murder mystery games - naturally enough!

(It takes maybe 10-15 minutes to create a basic page in Squidoo - and it needs no special software apart from a web-browser.)

New mystery for kids!

Mysteries on the Net have released another new kid's mystery - The Rocking Case of the Missing Music.

At the end of every school year, Rolling Hills High School holds a music concert. Students and teachers can perform, and there's always a special guest. There was huge controversy when it was revealed that The Screaming Pixies had been booked to appear. The students love them, but their loud rock music isn't very popular with the parents...

The Rocking Case of the Missing Music is for 8 to 30 teenagers - and like all of the Mysteries on the Net kids' mysteries, it's suitable for kids (there are no untimely deaths, for example).

New Layout for Great Murder Mystery Games

You might have noticed a few changes to the layout of Great Murder Mystery Games over the last couple of weeks - and that's because I'm giving the site a bit of a spring clean and tidying up the layout.

I've actually been planning to do this for a while, but I've been waiting for Site Built It! (the people who host my site) to enable something called "includes". For those of you who are web-savvy know what I mean, and those of you who aren't will just have to trust me when I say that it will make future layout changes much easier.

Planning your party

In my article Planning your murder mystery party I recommend that you take about 6 weeks preparing your party, from buying the game to the event itself.

But you don't have to take that long.

You can do it much, much quicker if you like. I've heard of some people who have done it in as little as two days - but from what I can tell that usually means that they have people already coming to a party and they aren't so worried about costuming.
