Enquiry re scripted games

I am interested in purchasing Love,Lust and Lies on the Lentini Line. There will be 20-22 of us.I have never played a scripted mystery before and I wanted to know:

1. How many scripted parts are there in this one, and must the script be learnt word for word?

2. Do unscripted players play specific characters for which they are given background information, etc?

I'm not really keen on the idea of everyone being detectives if they don't have a script.

3. Does the action take place entirely on the train or does it have to move on to the villa as well? We have the possibility of using a train carriage for this game, but I needed to know if we require a villa as well.

My response:

Love, Lust and Lies on the Lentini Line is one of the murder mystery party games published by Mystery Writers Ltd.

I must admit that I don't know very much about that particular game, so I'm going to invite John from Mystery Writers Ltd to answer!

Hi Janet
To answer your questions about Love, Lust & Lies on the Lentini Line
1/ There are 8 main characters who have scripted roles (a bit like a dinner theatre)
Some guests like to try and learn the parts and there is a cheat sheet which highlights the most important parts. (The important parts are highlighted in red on the main script as well) Other guests are quite happy to read their parts from the script on the night. it depends on how seriously they take it and the sort of event planned
2/ unscripted players just act as watching detectives as this is the way we prefer to deal with larger groups. It is in effect a performance based murder mystery and everybody else just observes and then selects who they think the murder is
3/ Act 1 takes place on a train and Act 2 and Act 3 take place in a villa. The game was originally written to be set on a train and then in a villa but this could be flexible. It is usually played in a room with the chairs arranged on stage to appear to be a train carriage (this can help with the plot as different characters come in from different ends of the carriage)
If you could use a train and then a villa that would be great but may take some organising

I hope this helps but if you need any further info please come back to us at info@playmurdermystery.com
