What would you suggest for a murder mystery birthday party at short notice (1 week), unsure exactly how many will attend (15 - 20?), and wanting everyone to participate fully...??!

I am turning 40 next weekend and am very reluctantly having a party for myself. I've realised that it badly needs some sort of 'hook' and thought of a murder mystery. It will be at home (plenty of rooms) and the guestlist is something like 15 20 people. We will be eating, but not having a sit-down meal. I really want everyone to be involved...

I've never even been to a murder mystery party but have heard they're great, so I'm hoping for a quick recommendation that I can act on quickly to save my boring little party!

My response:

I think a murder mystery is a great way to celebrate a birthday - whether it's 14 or 40!

Anyway, for that number of people, and assuming that you want the host to play as well, I suggest something like Murder at the Four Deuces or The Auction.

(If you could find someone to host it for you (but wouldn't have a "character" role) then I'd recommend Hollywood Lies.)

Have a great 40th party!
