Guilty Parties: Halloween and The Kiss of Death October 06, 2025 |
Welcome to Guilty PartiesWelcome to Guilty Parties, the murder mystery party newsletter from Great Murder Mystery Games. This time, I have two new games suitable for Halloween, and I played Hollywood Lies at the People’s Theatre in Newcastle. The Kiss of DeathThe Kiss of Death is an interactive murder mystery for 6-8 people (and a host) set at Bat Hall, a Gothic mansion in 1889 London. It is published by Freeform Games (of which I am a partner, so take anything I say with a pinch of salt). It is the end of the Victorian era, and fears of vampires grow as young men are found dead, drained of blood. At Bat Hall, a Gothic mansion hosting the engagement party of Lord Quintus Mistmere (self-proclaimed vampire hunter) to Bianca Wildflower, festivities turn grim when Quintus is found murdered, his body bearing the same eerie marks...I played in the author’s playtest of The Kiss of Death (in London over the summer), and had a lot of fun. I played Emery Blakes, an occult illusionist. As a partner in Freeform Games, it didn’t seem fair for me to play a main character, so I was given the free extra character. (All Freeform Games murder mysteries come with at least one free extra character, in case you have an extra guest.) I’m not going to spoil the game, other than to say that I was half right in guessing the murderer. Click here to learn more about The Kiss of Death. Halloween NightHalloween Night is a boxed interactive murder mystery for 8-24 people (and a host) and published by Murder and Adventure Games, a new company in the UK. Halloween Night is set in a Transylvanian castle and features a variety of classic monsters, including vampires, werewolves, and mad scientists. The box includes full-colour character sheets, advice booklets for the host, full colour nametags and item cards, and 24 clear plastic nametag holders. He invited me along, and I played Bobby Treveeno.Click here to find out how I got on – and discover Tom’s idea for hosting Hollywood Lies. That’s it for this time! Legal Stuff...
