The host

What would the host wear to a murder mystery set in the 1930's?

My response:

I think what the host wears depends entirely on the setting.

If the murder mystery is a country house murder, then I would expect black tie to be appropriate.

On the other hand if the murder mystery is set at an archaeological dig, then something else entirely would be needed.

I suggest that you try and pick a "master of ceremonies" feel to the host - so perhaps slightly more formal than most of the other characters, but still in keeping with the setting.
