Hey there,
So I’m planning to host a murder mystery party for my birthday, I'm super excited, but I had a quick question before I finalise anything.
I want to customize the party a bit. Here’s what I’m thinking: The victim will not be playing, while everyone mingles, there will be a knock at the door and a stripper shows up. No one in the group knows him — he’s a friend of mine, but I’ll pretend I’m pissed and totally thrown off like someone ruined the party. He’ll do a short 10–15 minute performance, and then mid-routine, the lights cut out, we play fake gunshots and screaming, and when the lights come back on — he’s “dead.” On the floor. Super dramatic. He won’t be playing the game after that — he’s just the victim.
Would that kind of twist still work within the way your games are set up? I’m not messing with the core format — just adding a bit of chaotic flair.
Also: do you have any recommendations for which game might work best for a group of 20–25 people? We’re mostly adults, late 20s to late 30s, all down for drama and ridiculous fun.
My response:
Wow, that's quite a start to a party!
I can say that I don't know of any murder mystery games that start like that (I don't know of any with a strippergram). But it sounds like that's just a way to start your party, rather than being part of the game.
(Although I'm not quite sure how you go from that kind of start to playing the game, but I'm sure you'll figure it out.)
As for game suggestions, I suggest you look at the page where I list games suitable for parties of between 11 and 25 guests.
Click here to read Murder mystery party games for 11 to 25 guests.
(I can't think of a specific game that suits your suggested opening - that's so different from anything I've come across.)
The Show Must Go On! - an English amateur dramatics themed themed murder mystery for 9-13 guests.
Here's my suggested quick route through the site:
Step 1 - Go to Choosing a Game to choose the game that suits your party best.
Step 2 - Review the Tips for Hosts for helpful advice.
Step 3 - If you want to keep up to date with the latest murder mystery game news, click on my What's New page.
