Does the host get to join in with the fun?

I'm having a 16th birthday party, and originally I assumed that I would be able to host it with no problem, but after reading through reviews, I found that someone else used this game for a 16th birthday party but their parents hosted it.

I obviously want to be involved and get to play the game myself as it's my birthday, but will I be able to if I am hosting?

My response:
